Designjunction Roundup

This year’s designjunction was a brilliantly eclectic event – here are some of our highlights.

Preparing for an event is always busy work, but with two projects to deliver for designjunction 2018, alongside all our usual work, the Icon team was really put through its paces! We welcomed a number of new faces and old friends to our stand at the Doon Street site and it also marked the official launch our specialist acoustic brand, We Design Silence to the market. The event was a chance for people to get a first look at the core products from We Design Silence, which included several iterations of the Mood collection, Deskmate and our award-nominated mobile screen Bedouin. To celebrate, we hosted an evening of insightful talks from two of the key designers: Alain Berteau, who talked us through the concept behind his Mood Collection and Barry Jenkins from BroomeJenkins, who shared his process of designing our mobile screen Bedouin. A short walk downstairs from our stand was The Designer’s Dreamscape, which has to be one of our biggest highlights of the event. We received so much brilliant feedback from everyone who experienced it. This impressive installation included a purpose-built Mood Slice unit, Khamsin acoustic shelving and bespoke, domed ceiling baffles. The space itself played host to a number of workshops throughout the event and looked (and sounded) fantastic. For more details on how we collaborated with Architects Squire & Partners, click here. The event itself was buzzing with ideas and creativity. Set along the iconic South Bank over a number of different pop up venues, there was so much to take in! We marvelled at the array of designs and brands exhibiting: everything from furniture and lighting to knitwear and accessories. There were also a number of installations as part of the London Design Festival, such as the “Gateway to Inclusion”, a colourful structure of steel and ribbon on a jetty over the Thames, and we also particularly enjoyed the fascinating Vitra exhibition in the Bargehouse, which showed how their brand and products have evolved through the years. All in all it was a chance to meet and chat with all kinds of creatives and makers in a fantastic celebration of design talent. We are so glad to have met with so many people on our stand, at the event, and in The Designers’ Dreamscape too – thanks to everyone who was part of it!
